Kemmerer Village
THERAPEUTIC RECREATION PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

I.    BOARD POLICY ON RECREATION

Kemmerer Village and its Board of Directors are committed to the fact that individuals, while residents of Kemmerer Village, will be given the opportunity to enhance self-image by providing a sense of direction for expressing energies and abilities through the use of recreational activities.

II.    RECREATION PHILOSOPHY

Throughout the State, among the youth referred to various child welfare agencies, there is a certain population that is highly resistant to current services being offered such as: counseling, advocacy, education, and job training. The Therapeutic Recreation Department at Kemmerer Village provides treatment and leisure services that help in the development of emotional, social, physical, and mental well-being of our youth.

III.    PROGRAM GOALS

A.    To reduce inappropriate resident behavior by the re-direction of a resident’s energies and abilities.

B.    To facilitate the growth of resident self-esteem and self-confidence.

C.    To offer activities in which youth have opportunities to take responsibility for their actions.

D.    To nurture diversity, look at things from other’s viewpoint.

IV.    SERVICES OFFERED

    • Individual Activity Programs (IAP)
    • Therapeutic Group Activities

This program consists of residents receiving one-on-one activities with the Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.  This quality time is spent focusing on an area of concern that has been determined based on the resident’s Rehabilitative Services Plan.
